The 15-year-old Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network, or CoCoRaHS, run by Colorado State University in Fort Collins, has more than 16,000 volunteer citizen scientists of all ages signed up nationwide to record and monitor precipitation using low-cost, but accurate, rain gauges.
