Co-chair of the President’s Sustainability Commission, Tonie Miyamoto has led Colorado State University to four consecutive platinum ratings from the global STARS (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System). CSU was the first institution of higher education to earn a platinum rating.
As executive director of communications and sustainability for the Division of Student Affairs, Miyamoto also advises the Eco Leaders student sustainability program and instructs two courses for the program endorsed by the School of Global Environmental Sustainability. The Eco Leaders program introduces students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds to sustainability engagement and provides them with the tools to educate their peers and develop leadership skills.
Miyamoto holds a B.S. in journalism from the University of Wyoming with a certificate in women’s studies and an M.S. in technical communications with an emphasis in public relations and a graduate certificate in women’s studies from Colorado State University.
