Kampf, a Professor of Ecosystem Science and Sustainability, delves deep into the intricate dynamics of natural systems. Her research extends to the lesser-explored realms of non-perennial streams, which are crucial, poorly understood components of global water networks. In addition, her work sheds light on the critical nexus between mountain snowpack and downstream water availability, particularly in regions reliant on snowmelt for freshwater resources.

Kampf’s scholarly contributions extend beyond theoretical inquiry to practical applications, with a keen eye on informing evidence-based land management decisions. Her research on post-fire hazards addresses the pressing challenges posed by escalating wildfire activity. Through rigorous analysis and innovative methodologies, Kampf strives to enhance predictive capabilities for post-fire erosion, flooding and debris flows.

Equipped with a bachelor’s in geosciences, a Master of Science in hydrogeology and a Ph.D. in civil and environmental engineering, Kampf’s diverse background enables her to navigate seamlessly across disciplinary boundaries. Her holistic approach to research underscores the interconnectedness of natural systems and human activities.
