Sara Place is an associate professor of animal sciences at Colorado State University and a feedlot systems specialist for AgNext. Her research focuses on methane emissions in cattle systems.

Specifically, Place studies what influences and has the potential to mitigate methane in cattle – a topic that pertains to almost anyone who eats food. While most of the time the beef and dairy sectors are positioned as destructive to the environment, Place’s research puts a focus on how to move that system toward a sustainable future – as well as continue to feed the world’s population and meet climate goals in the process.

Her work encompasses measuring and mitigating methane, considering trade-offs across the food system and ensuring producer profitability.

Place received her Ph.D in animal biology from the University of California Davis and her bachelor’s in animal science from Cornell University.

Her work has been published in Agricultural Systems, The Journal of Dairy Science and more.
