Peter Harris is an associate professor of political science at Colorado State University. His research encompasses everything from U.S. foreign policy to global relations and international security.

He is currently studying the domestic implications of U.S. defense spending and security relations across the Taiwan Strait. His other recent research investigates the war in Ukraine, and more specifically the prospects for peace between Russia, Ukraine and the wider international community.

Harris also has expertise in U.S.-China relations.

He earned his Ph.D from the University of Texas Austin, his master’s from the University of London and his undergraduate degree from the University of Edinburgh.

Harris is the author of “Why America Can’t Retrench (And How It Might)” and co-author of “Deterrence Gap: Avoiding War in the Taiwan Strait.” He has published 40 articles and chapters, and over 250 additional features, blogs, op-eds and reviews. His peer-reviewed work has appeared in journals such as Asian Perspective, Asian Security, Chinese Journal of International Politics, International Affairs, International Political Sociology, International Politics, Journal of Indo-Pacific Affairs, Marine Policy, Parameters, Political Science Quarterly, Review of International Studies and Third World Quarterly.
