Pante, a Professor of Anthropology and Geography, specializes in human evolution and Early Stone Age archaeology. His research, based at Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania, explores the impact of meat consumption on human evolution and the emergence of Homo erectus.

Pante’s methodological innovations include 3-D scanning to identify feeding marks on fossils, shedding light on early dietary practices. He’s investigating the origins of cannibalism at sites like Krapina rock shelter in Croatia.

Notable publications include studies on potential cannibalism evidence and the impact of the Toba super volcano eruption on human diets. Pante holds a B.S., M.A. and Ph.D. in Evolutionary Anthropology from Rutgers University.
