Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion and Associate Professor of Atmospheric Sciences, Burt co-founded the national “Science Moms” campaign to empower mothers to address climate change.

She leads the NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates program, leads initiatives to empower young scientists and facilitates difficult discussions on equity. Burt has additional NSF grants focused on mentoring, well-being and improving workplace climate in geosciences.

Burt serves in numerous leadership positions with national professional organizations in the Earth Sciences, fields with the lowest diversity across all STEM fields, and was recently recognized for outstanding contributions to the promotion of diversity in the atmospheric or related sciences and broader communities through education and community service by the American Meteorological Society.

Burt also received the President’s Council on Culture Award for notable contributions to the culture of CSU. She holds M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Atmospheric Science from CSU.
