Katie Knobloch is an associate professor in the Department of Communication Studies and the associate director of the Center for Public Deliberation at CSU.

Knobloch’s work focuses on public participation and deliberative democracy, particularly the design and impact of community engagement programs. She works with state and community partners to design and implement engagement programs that create opportunities for empowered local decision making, and her most recent efforts have focused on rural communities, high school students and historically excluded communities.

She is the co-author of “Hope for Democracy: How Citizens’ Can Bring Reason Back into Politics” (Oxford, 2020), and her work has appeared in The Journal of Applied Communication Research, Political Studies, American Politics Research, Public Administration and Journal of Deliberative Democracy among other publications.

Knobloch received her Ph.D. from the University of Washington and her M.M.C. from the Manship School of Mass Communication at Louisiana State University.
