Jim Cale is an associate professor of Systems Engineering with expertise in electrical power systems and renewable energy. His research focuses on integrating sustainable technologies with the electric grid, and he has worked on electrifying aircraft.
Cale’s published articles range from electrical distribution efficiency to aerospace actuation systems. Of note, he’s analyzed the power and environmental impacts of mobile microgrids used in remote or emergency situations and used sunlight measurements to accurately predict solar panel output for optimized planning.
He earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Purdue University and his bachelor’s from Missouri University of Science and Technology. Before joining CSU, Cale managed the Distributed Energy Systems Integration Group at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and held various senior positions in engineering and management.
