James Wilson is a professor of mathematics at Colorado State University. His research focuses on comparing large data sets called tensors and removing duplication and recognizing patterns.

This methods have applications involving quantum states of matter, cryptography, detecting intrusion in networks and separating overlapping signals. Wilson’s team works with groups across the globe to build software for practical use and explore the limits of what is currently possible.

He obtained his bachelor’s degree in mathematics at Portland State University and went on to earn his master’s and Ph.D from the University of Oregon.

Wilson’s research has been published in Transactions of the American Mathematical Society, Theory of Computing and more.
