Emily Merz is an assistant professor of psychology at Colorado State University. She studies the effects of socioeconomic factors and early experiences on brain development in children and adolescents.  

She is interested in identifying factors that promote resilience and informing the design of effective strategies that reduce socioeconomic disparities in health and academic achievement.  

Merz earned her Ph.D in clinical and developmental psychology from the University of Pittsburgh, and completed her postdoctoral training at Columbia University.   

Her research has been published in Child Development, Biological Psychiatry, Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, Developmental Science, and more.
