Fulford is a senior instructor of English focused on poetry, writing pedagogy and nurturing empathy in both students and instructors.

In her research, “Undergraduate College Student Perceptions of Empathy Cultivation in the Humanities Classroom,” Fulford uncovers students’ unanimous support for empathy cultivation in classrooms, highlighting its benefits for all involved. She’s presently collaborating on “Project Joy: Positive Psychology and Composition Instructors’ Pedagogical Loves.”

Her poetry works are also published and forthcoming, including her book “Southern atheist: oh, honey,” (2021) from Cathexis Northwest Press. Her second book of poetry, “Gulp,” (2024) is forthcoming from Red Ogre Review, and a poetry chapbook, “The skin song,” (2024) is forthcoming from Bottlecap Press.

Fulford holds a doctor of education from the University of New England, along with master’s degrees in creative writing and education and a bachelor’s degree in English.
