Beth Hayes is an agriculture and natural resource coordinator for Colorado State University Extension. Her work encompasses everything from livestock and agriculture to disaster preparedness.

Hayes’ field research is focused on how urban homesteaders and cattle operations can utilize hydroponic fodder. This is a process of growing cereal grains such as barley into sprouted grass in a water only based growing system. Hydroponic fodder allows these operations to have a fresh forage that works as a diet supplement and added water source for their animals using minimum water and space requirements. Trials are currently underway with her office using horses, cows and chickens.

She is also part of the team that put together the emergency management workbook for CSU Extension staff, helping them get involved in community disaster preparation, response and recovery.

This publication is now being used as a template by other land grant universities throughout the U.S.

Hayes earned all her academic degrees from CSU.
