Warner College of Natural Resources Dean and Professor Dr. A. Alonso Aguirre is a collaborative, international researcher, utilizing the One Health approach to study the ecology of wildlife diseases and the links between human health and conservation of biodiversity. He is a doctor of veterinary medicine and surgery and a certified wildlife biologist.

For three decades, Aguirre has focused on integrative, transdisciplinary work across 30 countries. He has edited and published more than 160 monographs, professional papers and proceedings on wildlife medicine, diseases and anesthesia, ecosystem health and conservation medicine.

Aguirre served as a delegate for the Global Council of Science and the Environment at COP26 in Glasgow, Scotland; was a member of the Board of Life Sciences at the National Academy of Sciences; and has been an editor for the Journal of Wildlife Diseases, the European Journal of Wildlife Research and the EcoHealth Journal, across a career of service and accolades.

Dr. Aguirre earned his D.V.M. at the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico in 1984, and his M.S. in wildlife biology and environmental health and Ph.D. in wildlife biology and protected areas management at CSU in 1987 and 1990, respectively.
