The Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture’s annual Poinsettia Sale will take place on Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Colorado State University Horticulture Center, 1707 Centre Ave. Fifty-five cultivars are available for purchase in solid and variegated shades of pinks, reds and whites. Poinsettia plants are $15 for a 6-inch pot and $20 for an 8-inch pot. Optional foil pot covers are available for no additional cost.

The annual poinsettia sale benefits upper-level College of Agricultural Sciences students in the floriculture concentration, who raise the poinsettias as part of a hands-on practicum course. During the semester-long course students manage the crops from cutting to finished plants, learning vital skills in plant care, including plant nutrition, pest management and environmental control. A key part of the process is controlling light exposure to ensure the plants bloom in time for the holidays.

The poinsettias are grown at the CSU Horticulture Center, a state-of-the-art facility that supports both student education and research. Proceeds from the sale help fund future horticulture students’ hands-on learning experiences. To see photos of the poinsettias, check out the Horticulture Center’s Instagram page, @csu_hortcenter.
