Colorado State University, which recently tied for No. 1 in curriculum and No. 4 overall among doctoral institutions by one organization, has powered and pedaled its way to two more honors related to sustainability.

CSU is one of 40 higher education institutions to earn a perfect 99-out-of-99 score to make the 2024 Green College Honor Roll as ranked by The Princeton Review. This is CSU’s 10th consecutive year with a perfect score.

CSU also earned the 14th spot out of 50 in the publication’s Guide to Green Colleges, which Princeton said is based on a combination of school-reported data and student opinion via institutional and student surveys.

The student response section said CSU attendees describe their peers as “down to earth and energetic” and also “respectful, kind and full of CSU pride.”

Based on surveys of administrators at 683 and analysis of more than 25 survey data points, the 2024 edition features profiles of 522 schools. The universities making the guide were selected for “exceptional programs, policies and practices related to sustainability and the environment.”

Rob Franek, editor-in-chief of The Princeton Review, said in a press release that nearly 70% of 8,800 applicants polled for its 2023 College Hopes & Worries Survey mentioned having information about a school’s commitment to the environment would affect their decision to apply or attend that institution.

“With increasing concern about climate change, particularly among younger people who will be most affected by its long-term impact, we are seeing increasing interest among college applicants in attending green colleges” Franek said. “We have seen dramatic growth in the number of colleges committing to sustainability-related practices — from sourcing food from local purveyors to constructing LEED- certified buildings to making fossil fuel-free commitments. We are proud to shine our light on these exceptional schools.”

A platinum-grade Bike Friendly University

Also, given the number of students, staff and faculty on wheels around campus, it’s no surprise CSU recently repeated as a platinum-level Bike Friendly University as ranked by League of American Bicyclists.

Out of the 220 colleges and universities in America to be awarded at some level, CSU is one of just six to earn the platinum level – joining Stanford University, University of California-Irvine, UC-Santa Barbara, University of Wisconsin-Madison and platinum newcomer Boise State University.
