Media advisory: CSU Ag Day provides education – and tasty barbecue – to 3,000 hungry football fans

What:

For 42 years, Colorado State University’s Ag Day has provided the community the opportunity to learn more about where their food comes from – while enjoying a tasty barbecue in the process. This celebration of CSU’s agricultural roots includes a cookout hosted by the College of Agricultural Sciences featuring Colorado commodities, music and interactive activities for upwards of 3,000 guests of all ages.

When:

The Nutrien Ag Day barbecue begins at 1 p.m. on Sept. 30 on the intramural fields west of the Lory Student Center, with food service ending at 4 p.m. – one hour before the CSU football team takes on Utah Tech at Canvas Stadium.

Tickets:

Game and barbecue tickets start at $40 for adults and $33 for youth, with barbecue-only tickets costing $22 for adults and $12 for youth. Admission to the football game is free for CSU students, who can receive barbecue tickets for $12.

The proceeds from the barbecue support scholarships for students in the College of Agricultural Sciences. A total of $543,537 has been awarded in scholarships since 2000, and 319 individual scholarships.

Teaching Coloradans about their local food:

Producers from all corners of the state help volunteer at the Ag Day barbecue and engage with anyone who wants to learn more about the food they eat.

“Many people are a couple of generations removed from agriculture or raising animals, and Ag Day offers us an opportunity to show the consumer the faces behind the products they are purchasing,” said Brett Rutledge, a CSU alumnus (’92) and longtime Ag Day volunteer who grows wheat and raises cattle and pigs in Yuma, Colorado.
