Creator of Holocaust Shoe Project to Speak at Colorado State University April 21, Benefiting Those in Need in the Community

The creator of the Holocaust Shoe Project, Alan Morawiec, will speak at Colorado State University on April 21. The event is sponsored by Students for Holocaust Awareness and Hillel.

Morawiec will speak at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21 in the Lory Student Center Theatre. He will speak about his father’s experience in the Holocaust and the background of this project.

Students for Holocaust Awareness will collect wearable pairs of shoes in the Theatre from 5-6 p.m. before the presentation. This is the first year that this project has been brought to Fort Collins. The project has many participating organizations including Hillel, Congregation Har Shalom and many of the schools in the Poudre School District.

The Holocaust Shoe Project not only educates students and the public about the Holocaust but also helps the community with the donation of shoes at the completion of every Holocaust Awareness Week. Last year, two organizations received approximately 4,757 pairs of shoes. Over the years, the shoes have gone to organizations for the needy in areas including Colorado, Mexico, Iraq, Belarus, Haiti, and the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico. Since the program’s inception, the project has collected more than 28,000 pairs of shoes.

The Holocaust Shoe Project is sponsored by Hillel, Students for Holocaust Awareness, Associated Students of Colorado State University and Association for Student Activity Programming.
