Citizen’s Police Academy Hosted by Colorado State University Police Department and Division of Student Affairs Begins Sept. 11

The Colorado State University Police Department and the Division of Student Affairs will kick off the third annual Citizen’s Police Academy beginning Thursday, Sept. 11.

CSU Police Department encourages the university community to take part in this unique experience. The academy does not require any previous knowledge of law enforcement or any special physical abilities.

The academy will conduct 12 classes and conclude with graduation on Thursday, Dec. 4. Classes will be held every Thursday from 6-8 p.m., excluding Thanksgiving Day. Classes will take place in the CSUPD Training Room at Green Hall and other locations as appropriate. There will be one four-hour Saturday class for firearms training at the range.

Fifteen students and five faculty or staff members will be admitted into the academy. Student applicants must be at least sophomores at Colorado State University and have 2.5 GPAs. All applicants must be free of felony and misdemeanor convictions and must agree to a limited background investigation.

If all five faculty and staff positions are not filled, students may fill the vacancies. Applications will be accepted from Friday, Aug. 15, until Wednesday, Sept. 3.
