The Fort Collins, Loveland and Colorado State University communities will gather for joint activities in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, Jan. 15.

MLK Jr. Poetry & Essay Contest

9:30 a.m., Colorado State University Bookstore

Reading by local school children of winning poems and essays from the MLK Jr. Poetry & Essay Contest.

Celebration on the Oval

11 a.m., Colorado State University Oval

Celebration begins at Colorado State University Oval. Music by local high school student Emily Fehler and Colorado State Graduate Student George Jackson, III and comments by Norberto Valdez, Colorado State Anthropology & Ethnic Studies.

March to Old Town

11:30 a.m.

March from Colorado State Oval to Old Town Fort Collins begins.

Celebration in Old Town

12 noon

Celebration begins on Linden Street in Old Town Fort Collins. Keynote address by Norberto Valdez, Colorado State Anthropology & Ethnic Studies. Music by Fort Collins High School Jazz Band. Free Parking on the Colorado State campus and free bus transportation provided from Old Town back to the Colorado State campus. Sign language interpreters provided.
