Colorado State University Observes Cultural Diversity with World Unity Fair and International Fest

Colorado State University will celebrate the diverse cultures on campus through the 52nd Annual International Fest, a month-long observation of different cultures. The event will begin with the World Unity Fair from 3-8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Lory Student Center main ballrooms.

This community-wide affair unites more than 16 international culture and country groups at the university and within the Fort Collins community and celebrates with a variety of unique customs, alluring tastes from around the world and entertainment and activities for all ages.

The World Unity Fair demonstrates the importance of cultural diversity and international relations while promoting a message of tolerance through entertainment and education. Events and activities include:

– Youth World Tour from 3-4 p.m.: Activities for children including folk dancing Henna painting, African drumming and magic.

– International Bazaar from 4-7:30 p.m.: Purchase international gifts and collectibles to benefit the Fort Collins International Center.

– Food and culture booths from 5-8 p.m.:  Experience the titillating tastes and sights of international cultures.

– World Talent Show from 6-8:30 p.m.: Dancing, singing and martial arts will be performed in the Lory Student Center Theater.

Activities are free, except for food and artifact purchases. Food tickets are available at the University Box Office in the Lory Student Center from 4:30-7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12.

The Annual International Fest is held Nov. 1 through Dec. 1. Highlighted events in this celebration include guest speakers, Native American awareness month activities, a Japanese Kimono exhibit, international films, India Night, HIV/AIDS awareness film and candlelight vigil, discussions and cultural performances.

Colorado State celebrates these events as part of the national International Education Week, a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, observed Nov. 14-18 to promote and celebrate international education and exchange. International Fest is sponsored in part by the university’s Office of International Programs, Associated Students of Colorado State University, Council for International Student Affairs, Lory Student Center, the city of Fort Collins Fort Fund, and other Colorado State University and other campus organizations and departments.
