Colorado State University is bringing their nationally recognized advanced generalist Master’s of Social Work degree to residents of Colorado Springs and the surrounding area beginning January 2006. Applications are due by July 15, 2005.

Foundation courses include social work practice, human behavior and the social environment, social welfare policy and services, research and a field placement in a human service agency.  Concentration courses build on the above courses and include individual, group, community and family practice, social welfare policy, organizational research and field placement in your community. The program consists of 62 credits.

Courses will be taught over a three-year period at three semesters per year. Classes will be held four weekends per semester, which include one weekend in Fort Collins and three weekends in Colorado Springs. Colorado State faculty will travel to the Colorado Springs area for classes and maintain regular contact with students through the Internet and telephone.

Social workers are employed in a variety of settings including, but not limited to, mental health, child welfare, gerontology, human service administration, adoption, residential and institutional settings, schools, hospitals, social action and advocacy groups, hospice and private practice.

"The program will prepare people for human service positions and provide career advancement for individuals already working in the human service area," said Eleanor Downey, director of the Colorado Springs MSW program.

The program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education and provides the basis for obtaining a state social work license, allowing individuals to work in countless areas of the social services sector in communities across the nation.
