Colorado State University’s Hatton Gallery Announces Fall 1998 and Spring 1999 Schedule

The art department at Colorado State University has announced the Hatton Gallery exhibition and event schedule for fall 1998 and spring 1999.

The fall semester exhibitions focus on European artists and include a survey of work by young Polish artists and the work of German artist Mario Reis. The first exhibition, titled "Markings: Contemporary Polish Works on Paper," will run from Aug. 31-Oct. 2, with an opening reception Aug. 31 from 7-9 p.m. in the Hatton Gallery.

The next exhibition, titled "Mario Reis: In Flux: Nature Watercolors from the U.S.," will run from Oct. 8-Nov. 20 with an opening reception Oct. 8 from 7-9 p.m. in the Hatton Gallery. In conjunction with the Reis exhibition, a lecture by curator Sefanie Lucci will be offered at noon Oct. 8 at the Wold Resource Center in the Visual Arts building.

In addition, fall events include a visit by art criticism scholar Terry Barrett. Barrett is a professor in the department of art education at Ohio State University at Columbus, where he specializes in teaching art criticism. He is an accomplished photographer and has published three books: "Criticizing Photographs: An Introduction to Understanding Images," "Criticizing Art: Understanding the Contemporary" and "Talking About Student Art." Barrett will give a lecture titled "Interpreting Art" Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. in the Lory Student Center Theatre.

All exhibitions and events are free and open to the community. The Hatton Gallery is located in the Visual Arts building on campus and is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 1-4 p.m.

Dec. 4-Jan. 15–Master of Fine Arts candidates’ thesis exhibition at the Hatton Gallery

Feb. 1-March 5–"YA/YA: A Retrospective Exhibition" at the Hatton Gallery.

March 22-April 30–"Tim Rollins and K.O.S.: Fifteen Years of Art and Teaching" exhibition at the Hatton Gallery. Lecture by guest artist Tim Rollins, 7 p.m. April 6 in the Lory Student Center Theater.

April 21–"Why Americans Hate Art…and Other Thoughts for a Spring Day," lecture by guest critic Christopher Knight, 7 p.m. at the Lory Student Center Theater.

May 7-June 11 –Master of Fine Arts candidates’ thesis exhibition at the Hatton Gallery.
