Vinnie Paglioni is an assistant professor of Systems Engineering in the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering. With expertise in nuclear power, risk analysis and human error, his research endeavors focus on comprehending how risks propagate through intricate systems that underpin our daily lives. Specifically, Paglioni investigates the role of human operators in high-consequence, low-probability risk systems, such as nuclear power plants.

His peer-reviewed works include “Towards Ethical Risk Assessment,” assessing ethics in traditional risk assessments, and “Dependency Idioms for Quantitative Human Reliability Analysis,” which analyzes how human tasks affect system risks.

Paglioni earned a bachelor’s degree in nuclear and radiological engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a master’s and Ph.D. in reliability engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park.
