Susana Muñoz is a professor of higher education leadership in the School of Education at Colorado State University, where she also serves as associate director for faculty development and inclusive excellence. She is associate editor for the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education and a founding host of the Student Affairs NOW podcast.

Muñoz earned her B.A. in Political Science and International Studies from Iowa State University, her M.S. in Student Affairs in Higher Education from Colorado State University and her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Iowa State University.

Muñoz’s scholarship examines the experiences of undocumented Latinx students and other minoritized populations in higher education, drawing on critical race theory, legal violence, racist nativism and Chicana feminist epistemology to expose how institutions cause harm and to point toward humane and liberatory change. Her Spencer Foundation Grant-funded study on transfer pathways for undocumented students has directly shaped practice through partnerships with USC’s Center for Race and Equity, the Lumina Foundation’s REACH initiative and the California Community Colleges system.

Muñoz can speak on topics related to:

  • Undocumented and DACA student experiences in higher education
  • Critical race theory and racist nativism on college campuses
  • Hispanic-Serving Institution strategy and identity
  • Institutional support for minoritized college student populations
  • Faculty development and inclusive excellence in higher education
