Marie Vans is an associate professor of Systems Engineering, specializing in augmented and virtual reality for education, information science and social virtual reality. Her research focuses on demonstrating the educational value of AR/VR technologies for teaching and training purposes.
Vans has contributed to significant publications, including a study on anesthesia training using virtual reality in Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia. Additionally, her dissertation, published in IEEE Computer, is widely cited for its insights into program comprehension during software maintenance and evolution.
She holds a B.S. in computer science from California State University, along with an M.S. and Ph.D. in computer science from Colorado State University. Vans also earned a master’s in library and information science from San Jose State University.
