Associate Professor of Mycobacterial Immunology Dr. Marcela Henao–Tamayo leads a lab and directs CSU’s Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting Core Facility. Her expertise lies in vaccines, immune response and diseases like tuberculosis. With a background as a physician and immunologist, Henao–Tamayo has dedicated more than two decades to researching mycobacterial infections.
In her lab, Henao–Tamayo and her team delve into the intricacies of the immune system’s response to various infections, striving to comprehend the mechanisms underlying vaccine efficacy through analysis of post-vaccination cellular responses. Employing sophisticated tools including metabolic profiling and computational analyses, they aim to enhance our understanding of immune responses and pave the way for novel treatment strategies.
Her research sheds light on disease pathology and offers valuable insights for the development of innovative therapeutic approaches. Henao–Tamayo earned her M.D. and M.S. from Universidad De Antioquia and her Ph.D. from CSU.
