Ellen Wohl

Wohl, a University Distinguished Professor, focuses on the actions of mountain rivers that form bedrock canyons and other channels.

Her current research projects study the effects of logjams and beaver dams on channel complexity, productivity of the river ecosystems, and carbon storage in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Wohl is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America and the American Geophysical Union. She has received several awards, including the Gladys W. Cole Memorial Award from the Geological Society of America, the Kirk Bryan Award from the Geological Society of America, the G.K. Gilbert Award from the Association of American Geographers and the Award for Outstanding Contributions to Interdisciplinary Water Education, Research and Outreach from the CSU Water Center.

Wohl earned her B.S. in geology from Arizona State University in 1984 and her Ph.D. in geosciences from the University of Arizona in 1988.
