Chien-Yung Tseng is an assistant professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Colorado State University. His research and expertise primarily focus on fundamental fluid mechanics and solute transport in environmental flows, including rivers, lakes, estuaries and coastal regions.

Tseng studies how changing flow patterns impact ecosystems and hydraulic engineering systems, such as interactions between ecosystems and the environment, as well as designing and applying hydropower and hydrokinetic energy solutions.

Through his research, Tseng helps to contribute to the development of improved restoration and efficient engineering designs under various flow scenarios.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in physics at National Tsing Hua University, a master’s in applied mechanics at National Taiwan University and his Ph.D in water resources engineering and science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Before joining the faculty at CSU, Tseng worked as a postdoctoral researcher for the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

His work has been published in a variety of publications, including Water Resources Research, Geophysical Research Letters, Journal of Hydraulic Engineering and more.
