Brett Fling is a professor and department head of the Department of Health and Exercise Science at Colorado State University. He also serves as the executive director of the Human Performance Clinical Research Laboratory and the director of the Cloud Family Rehabilitation and Mobility (RAM) Laboratory.
A Colorado native, Fling earned his M.S. from the University of Massachusetts and his Ph.D. in Kinesiology and Neuroscience from the University of Michigan. He completed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of California–Irvine and Oregon Health & Science University, where he later joined the Neurology faculty before returning home to CSU.
Fling’s research focuses on how the brain’s structural and functional networks contribute to movement and how this knowledge can be used to improve rehabilitation interventions for people living with neurologic conditions. His team combines advanced brain imaging with innovative motor training interventions to promote neural plasticity and enhance mobility in individuals with multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and traumatic brain injury.
His research is supported by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the National Institutes of Health, the Michael J. Fox Foundation and the Edith C. Blum Foundation.
