Media advisory: Learn about the wonders of wheat at 2nd Saturday at CSU Spur

What: The Colorado State University Spur campus comes alive every 2nd Saturday of the month for a day full of free interactive, hands-on activities that the whole family can enjoy. And the best part, given the snow in the forecast? It’s mostly indoors! This month’s theme is “Made in Colorado,” and visitors have the opportunity to learn about all things wheat. In addition, there will also be numerous activities commemorating the Day of the Dead.
When: Saturday, Nov. 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: The CSU Spur campus at 4777 National Western Drive in Denver’s National Western Center.
Cost: Free!
List of activities: Here’s a snapshot of what visitors can expect to see this 2nd Saturday at Spur:
- A Colorado wheat activity table and event passport prize station in the Terra lobby.
- An Ardent Mills cookie baking demonstration as well as the opportunity to learn how to make bread.
- Wheat flour and cookie tasting sensory experiences.
- Pests and wheat diseases activity table.
- Wheat domestication and breeding activity.
- Wheat weaving.
- Activities commemorating the Day of the Dead including:
- A community altar.
- Aztec dance performances.
- Folkloric Ballet “Dance of the Garbanceras Skulls.”
- Sugar skull decorating activity.
- Face painting.
- Making papel picado.
- A stream table showing the power of water and erosion.
- Veterinarians performing live surgery on dogs and cats in the Denver Dumb Friends League Veterinary Hospital.
- Virtual reality demonstrations on the first floor of the Vida Building.
- Music activities in the CSU Spur Music Lab from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Hydro building.
