12th Annual Thornton-Massa Lecture at Colorado State University

Gebisa Ejeta, 2009 World Food Prize laureate, discusses “Global Food Security in the Face of Growing Challenges” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, Behavioral Sciences Building, Room 131, Colorado State University, Fort Collins. The building has ample parking just north of Pitkin Street, west of the intersection with East Drive.

The lecture is sponsored by the College of Agricultural Sciences and College of Natural Sciences. It is free and open to the public.

Details: Gebisa Ejeta grew up with poverty and hunger. Now he offers solutions.

Ejeta was raised in a one-room thatched hut in Ethiopia. He excelled as a student and became a distinguished professor of agronomy at Purdue University. Ejeta won the 2009 World Food Prize – called the Nobel Prize for agriculture – for developing sorghum varieties resistant to drought and parasitic weeds, and for teaching farmers in Africa to successfully grow the vital cereal grain. His discoveries and tireless work have eased hunger for millions of people in sub-Saharan Africa.
