Colorado State University’s Water Tables to Focus on Cross-Boundary Issues Feb. 20

Colorado State University Libraries will host Water Tables 2010, its annual fundraiser for the Water Resources Archive, at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20. The theme of this year’s event is “Across State Lines: Sharing the Resource.” Twenty water experts will host tables discussing relevant topics while a gourmet meal is served. The evening will begin with a reception and open house for the Water Resources Archive in Colorado State’s Morgan Library and move to the Lory Student Center main ballroom for dinner.

The benefit, now in its fifth year, annually attracts nearly 200 guests from across the state. In 2009, the event raised more than $29,000 for the Water Resources Archive. The Archive preserves materials critical for documenting the state’s water history.

“The evening was enjoyable, and it was a credit to CSU and its library system,” Ken Wright of Wright Water Engineers, event sponsor and archive donor, said of the 2009 event. “All the tables had good discussion moderators who had been thoughtfully selected. We are already looking forward to the 2010 Water Tables.”

Table hosts and topic discussions for Water Tables 2010 will focus on how states and countries share water. Archival materials on display during the open house will illuminate the history behind these topics. Table topics include:

· “Interstate comity is for the birds” discussed by Alan Berryman of the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District;

· “Why we have to share – limits on our right to consume” discussed by David Robbins, lawyer and president of Hill & Robbins, P.C.;

· “Perspectives from Wyoming on the Regional Watershed Supply Project–Green River Pipeline” discussed by Harry LaBonde, Jr., Wyoming Deputy State Engineer; and

· “The Colorado River as an international river: Mexico’s perspective” discussed by Mario López Pérez from the National Water Commission of Mexico.

This year’s table hosts are:

· Alan Berryman, assistant general manager, Engineering Division, Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District

· John D’Antonio, New Mexico State Engineer

· Derek Everett, visiting assistant professor, History Department, Metropolitan State College of Denver

· Jennifer Gimbel, director, Colorado Water Conservation Board

· Neil Grigg, professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Colorado State University

· Taylor Hawes, Colorado River program director, The Nature Conservancy

· Tom Iseman, program director for Water Policy and Implementation, Western Governors Association

· Frank Jaeger, district manager, Parker Water and Sanitation District

· Eric Kuhn, general manager, Colorado River Water Conservation District

· Harry LaBonde, Jr., Wyoming deputy state engineer

· Mario López Pérez, engineering and technical standards manager, National Water Commission of Mexico

· Jon Monson, director of Water and Sewer, city of Greeley

· Patrick O’Toole, president of the Family Farm Alliance, and former member of President Clinton’s Western Water Policy Review Advisory Commission

Tickets for the event are $125 per person. Proceeds will support the Water Resources Archive, which works to preserve, promote and make available records of Colorado’s water history.
