MyCSU 2.0 to Launch in Spring Semester

MyCSU, a Web site dedicated to showcasing the diversity of the Colorado State University campus, will launch a new site on Jan. 19. The site will be known as MyCSU 2.0 and is built on a state-of-the-art blogging technology that will provide for easy searching and viewing of the site’s many videos, photos and blogs. It can be accessed at http://mycsu.colostate.edu.

MyCSU will host a launch event in Lory Student Center from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27 in conjunction with the 2010 Student Involvement Fair hosted by SLiCE. Students will have the opportunity to participate in demonstrations of the new site and talk to an on-site videographer about their CSU experience. The footage from this event will then be compiled into a video and posted to the MyCSU site. Free t-shirts and other memorabilia will be given away to students.

“MyCSU 2.0’s format makes it a more usable and interactive social medium. Over the years, videos highlighting an array of students and their activities have been compiled, and this presents an opportunity to help the campus community and potential students easily access this body of work,” said Nik Olsen, assistant director of Administrative Communications in CSU’s Office of the President.

MyCSU 2.0 will streamline with various social media sites—making it easily accessible to students online. Options to follow the site’s updates via RSS feed, Facebook and Twitter will be available on the new site. All videos will be dually posted to YouTube and MyCSU, and photos will be a direct feed from Flickr, the online photo-sharing community.

MyCSU was started in 2006 with the premise of promoting campus diversity. The Office of the President also sought to use the tool as a means of marketing to potential new students—showing them that CSU has something for everyone. Since then, MyCSU has grown to include more than 60 professionally produced videos that are unique in style and all feature students on the CSU campus.

The site’s archives also contain blogs written by students that feature study abroad, daily campus life, athletics, research and other topics. Finally, the site holds hundreds of photos submitted by CSU students that illustrate their involvement in clubs, Greek Life, student government and much more.
