Renowned Artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude Come to Colorado State for Visiting Artists’ Lecture Oct. 15

Colorado State University’s Critic and Artists Residency Series presents internationally renowned artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude for a lecture at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 15 in the Griffin Concert Hall at the University Center for the Arts, 1400 Remington St.

Internationally renowned artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude are best known for their large-scale works of art, including Valley Curtain, Grand Hogback, Rifle, Colorado, 1970-1972; Running Fence, Sonoma and Marin Counties, California, 1972-1976; The Pont Neuf Wrapped, Paris, 1975-1985; and The Gates, Central Park, New York City, 1979-2005 among many others.

The format of the evening lecture is a presentation in two parts. For the first segment, the artists will give a slide presentation of previous projects and current works in progress, including Over the River, Project for the Arkansas River, State of Colorado, in progress since 1992. Over the River will be a temporary work of art comprised of 5.9 miles of luminous fabric panels, suspended horizontally, high above the water of the Arkansas River, in eight distinct areas along a 40-mile stretch of the river between Salida and Canon City.

The second portion of the evening will consist of questions and answers. A critical aspect of Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s work involves dialogue and discussion, and patrons are encouraged to take part. The lecture will start promptly at 6:30 p.m.

Any unclaimed reservations may be given to patrons who are waiting for a seat. Please note that photography is not allowed during the presentation, but is allowed during the question and answer portion of the presentation.

The artists are presenting this program as a gift to CSU. The program is sponsored by the FUNd at Colorado State University and the Department of Art and is part of the Critic and Artists Residency Series which started at CSU in 1997.
