Colorado State University Atmospheric Science Professor to Discuss Ozone, Climate Change on Thursday at Fort Collins Public Library

Professor David Thompson, associate professor in Colorado State University’s College of Engineering Department of Atmospheric Science, will talk about "The Ozone Hole and Climate Change" on Thursday, Nov. 20 as part of a series on the International Polar Year.

Thompson will speak at 7 p.m. in the Ben Delatour Room, Fort Collins Main Public Library at 201 Peterson St., Fort Collins. His lecture is part of a lecture series titled, "Antarctic Research and the Colorado Front Range: A Celebration of the International Polar Year."

Thompson’s research focuses on improving understanding of global climate variability, specifically looking at large-scale atmospheric dynamics, the interpretation of observed climate change, stratosphere/troposphere coupling, and ocean/atmosphere interaction. His work has led him to make valuable discoveries about the role of the atmospheric circulation and the ozone hole in recent climate change.

Thompson was named in 2007 by Popular Science as one of the "Brilliant 10" young scientists to watch, and has also received numerous other national recognitions for his outstanding contributions and innovative work.
