Alumna, Long-Time Colorado State University Enthusiast Named New Alumni Director

Colorado State University today announced a long-time university supporter and alumna as the new executive director of the Colorado State University Alumni Association.

Colleen Meyer, who has served as interim executive director of the Colorado State Alumni Association since June 2007 and worked at the association for more than seven years, will begin her duties immediately.

"This job requires someone who is able to interact effectively with many diverse constituent groups and represent the institution well," said Larry Edward Penley, president of Colorado State University. "Colleen offers the best balance of both experience and passion for CSU and its alumni programs. Colorado State alumni are powerful ambassadors throughout Colorado, the nation and the world. Colleen will continue to build on and maintain those important, lasting relationships with alumni that are mutually beneficial and enhance the perceived value of a Colorado State degree."

Meyer was born and raised in Pueblo, Colo., where she was an active member of 4-H locally and statewide. During her tenure at Colorado State, she has held a variety of Alumni Association leadership positions including interim executive director in 2003-2004 as well as since June 2007.

She is a 2007 graduate of the Chamber’s Leadership Fort Collins program and has been involved in a variety of activities including CSU’s School is Cool program, Muscular Dystrophy Association and New West Fest. She is a life member of the CSU Alumni Association and Ram Club member.

As a CSU student, Meyer was involved in the speech communication broadcasting club and spent her summers working for CSU’s Conference Services and academic year working for the Association of Collegiate Conference and Events Directors International.

"I believe a strong Alumni Relations team is critical to the success of Colorado State University and its advancement goals," Penley said. "Colleen has a passion for this university and our alumni program that are unmatched. She knows the university, she knows our alumni organization, she knows our goals and expectations – and she can hit the ground running today to build the program and its future."

A previous national search led university administrators to decide that the best candidate for the position was already on campus.

The mission of the CSU Alumni Association is to advance the university by developing and strengthening lifelong relationships between alumni and the university community, by benefiting current and future alumni and friends, and by serving as a catalyst for communications and involvement. The Board of Directors has 24 voting members and represents more than 140,000 alumni.
