Wood to Energy and Biomass Utilization Short Course Offered at Colorado State University

The second annual Wood to Energy and Biomass Utilization short course will be held on Jan. 7-11 and Jan. 14-18 at Colorado State University.

The two-week course will focus on energy and non-energy uses of forest biomass and technologies. The course content goes beyond the basics of a standard workshop or conference with training specifically designed to help participants appraise and establish successful biomass utilization projects and facilities.

The following topics will be taught by industry professionals and academic experts in state and national biomass and renewable energy policy:

– Current and pending policy and legislation

– Harvesting methods, merchandising and costs

– Conducting biomass supply assessments

– Biomass measurement and conversion factors

– Biomass heating and power applications

– Alternative conversion technologies

– Investment and economic analysis

– Case studies to develop biomass utilization projects

– Renewable energy marketing

The first week emphasizes forestry and forest management, while the second week focuses on energy technology applications.
