Community Discussion About Helping Working Adults Hosted by Colorado State Center for Public Deliberation

Colorado State University’s Center for Public Deliberation will host a National Issues Forum community discussion, "Making Ends Meet: What Can We Do To Help Working Americans?" from 9:15-11:15 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at the Aztlan Community Center, 112 Willow St. The event is free and open to the public.

The National Issues Forums is a non-partisan organization dedicated to bringing communities together nationwide to discuss various issues. The goal of Saturday’s event is to involve the community in a deliberative discussion about poverty issues, in particular the situation for the working poor. The office of Colorado state Rep. John Kefalas will co-host the event.

Student facilitators from the Center for Public Deliberation will moderate the forum in a non-partisan manner while note-takers will document concerns, ideas, questions and other thoughts from the participants. The desired result is a public discussion of the different approaches to helping the working poor, the appreciations and concerns of each approach and ultimately the consideration of potential local actions to address the issue.

A limited number of issue books, detailing the particulars of the subjects to be discussed, are available for free beforehand through the Center for Public Deliberation. Familiarity with the material is not necessary to be part of the discussion. A report from the forum will be made available to participants and posted on the CPD Web site at www.cpd.colostate.edu.
