Colorado State University Bookstore Hosts World-Class Climber Gerry Roach for Presentation and Book Signing
Outdoor adventurer Gerry Roach, the second person to climb the highest peak on each of the seven continents, including Mount Everest, will present and sign his new autobiography, "Transcendent Summit: One Climber’s Route to Self-Discovery," at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Colorado State Bookstore on the main level of the Lory Student Center on campus.
The 61-year-old world-class climber, who was also the first person to climb the 10 highest peaks in North America, has shared his wealth of experiences by writing guidebooks for 22 years. "Colorado’s Fourteeners," a book about climbing Colorado’s highest peaks, has sold over 120,000 copies and is one of the few guidebooks to rank on "The New York Times" best-seller list.
"I’ve already written about the most well-known local climbs," said Roach. "Transcendent Summits is primarily the story of my coming-of-age as a world class climber. I’m able to reflect on my climbing career using the vital perspective of time, allowing me a unique level of introspection."
"Transcendent Summits" contains captivating climbing stories of discovery and spiritual growth. His youthful ascents take the reader to some of the world’s most compelling peaks, including Longs Peak, Grand Teton, Rainier and Denali, the first step in his quest for Seven Summits.
In his new book, Roach, who is based in Boulder, Colo., presents the "Climbing Paradigm," a concept applicable to most challenges that life has to offer. "A successful climb requires clear thinking, careful design, meticulous planning and flawless execution," Roach said.
"Conquering each summit is conceptually a simple goal, but reaching it requires a very complicated procedure, razor-sharp focus on the mountain, plus good conditions – yours and the mountain’s."
The event is free and open to the public. Free parking is available at the Lory Student Center after 4 p.m.
