Colorado State University General Counsel Brian Snow Announces Retirement Following 15 Years of Service

Brian Snow, general counsel for Colorado State University and the Board of Governors of the Colorado State University System since 1988, announced today that he will retire from these positions at the end of June.

"Brian has been a dedicated and passionate advocate for Colorado State University for many years, beginning with his tenure as an appointed member of the Board of Governors in

1987," said Albert C. Yates, president of Colorado State University and chancellor of the university system. "His achievements are many and include the strong leadership he provided in guiding our institution toward compliance with Title IX in the early 1990s."

Snow has played a prominent role in higher-education law nationwide and was one of only 40 people selected worldwide to participate in the prestigious Oxford Round Table in Higher Education Law at Oxford University in 2000. He has served as a member of the President’s Cabinet since 1988. Throughout his tenure at Colorado State, Snow has published a dozen law review articles and provided more than 40 speeches and presentations about law, education and Title IX throughout the nation. He is also an assistant professor at Colorado State.

Since 1991, Snow has taught, without compensation, popular courses on law in student affairs and higher education. Among other academic honors and awards, he received the Oliver P. Pennock Award, which is the university’s highest award for teaching and service, and was named the Outstanding Friend of the College of Applied Human Sciences.

"One of Brian’s greatest achievements has been the fine staff he has assembled in Colorado State’s Office of the General Counsel, and this team will help to assure a smooth transition to new leadership in the months ahead," said Yates.

Prior to serving at Colorado State, Snow was a director and partner at the Denver law firm of Isaacson, Rosenbaum, Woods & Levy. He had previously served as an assistant dean and associate professor of law at the University of Arkansas School of Law and as a partner at the law firm of Davis, Graham and Stubbs in Denver. Prior to law school, Snow worked as a staff reporter for the Wall Street Journal.

Snow earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s in political science from the University of Arkansas in 1962 and 1963. He earned his law degree from the Duke University School of Law in 1966, where he served on the editorial board for the "Duke Law Journal."

Throughout his career, Snow has remained active in professional and community activities. He currently serves on the editorial board of the "Journal of College and University Law" and on the Board of Editors for the "Education Law Journal." Snow is former president of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Colorado and of the Washington Park United Church of Christ. He additionally wrote, produced and acted in "The Trial of Minnie Wright" for the Fort Collins-based Bas Blue Theater Company.
