Colorado State University Names Graduate of the Last Decade 2003

Colorado State University will name Scott Anderson as recipient of the Distinguished Graduate of the Last Decade at the annual Alumni Awards dinner on May 2. Anderson, a 1993 graduate of the College of Applied Human Sciences’ Construction Management Program, currently serves as the Rocky Mountain Region Project Controls Manager for Colorado’s The Industrial Company, one of the world’s leading industrial contractors.

The annual GOLD award, one of the university’s top honors, recognizes recent graduates for accomplishments that have brought honor to Colorado State.

"Scott is a great example of someone who has taken what he learned at Colorado State and made his mark in his profession and on the community," said Nancy Hartley, dean of the College of Applied Human Sciences.

While attending Colorado State, Anderson, who now lives in Highlands Ranch, earned membership in Sigma Lambda Chi, the National Construction Management Honor Society. Anderson excelled in his academic program while also devoting long hours to athletics as a member of the Colorado State Rams football team on a four-year full scholarship.

In addition to academic and athletic achievements at Colorado State, Anderson has established a successful career in the field of construction management. Soon after graduation, Anderson began his career as a cost/schedule engineer for JE Merit Constructors. In June 1996, he joined TIC and within three years was promoted regional controls manager. In this position, Anderson is responsible for millions of dollars in the construction of power generating and energy centers. His job duties include overseeing $450 million in ongoing projects including the Rocky Mountain Energy Center in Keenesburg and the Blue Spruce Energy Center in Aurora.

Recently, Anderson completed the Rawhide CT Project in Wellington, finishing the project $25,000 under budget. A group of Colorado State alumni working at TIC, lead by Anderson, proposed that the excess money be used to fund an endowed scholarship for Colorado State’s construction management program. The idea was approved and Anderson is working to establish the scholarship.

"This is only one example of Scott’s commitment to the construction management program and his willingness to give back time and resources to the program," said Hartley.

Anderson further supports the construction management department by hiring both interns and graduates of the program and is becoming active in the Construction Management Professional Advisory and Development Board.

Anderson also is known for his support of Habitat for Humanity projects and has organized two golf tournaments to raise funds for the organization.
