Colorado State University’s El Centro Presents 20th Annual Achievement Awards

Colorado State University’s El Centro will hold its 20th annual Achievement Awards in the Lory Student Center Main Ballroom on April 4.

Several scholarship recipients will be recognized during the dinner. The program will honor one recipient of the El Centro Scholarship, 17 recipients of the Elizabeth Woodworth Memorial Scholarship, one recipient of the Johnna and Art Bavoso Scholarship, one recipient of the Fort Collins/Loveland Bank One Scholarship and all graduating seniors involved in the El Centro program.

This year’s event theme, "Resiliency," was chosen in honor of all the students, parents, staff, faculty, colleagues and supporters of the El Centro awards who have overcome barriers to accomplish their goals. "Many of our colleagues love the Hispanic culture and they continue to support this exciting and fun evening," said Guadalupe Salazar, director of El Centro. "Every year we encourage our students and families to support this event, and we emphasize how important it is for parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends to celebrate the accomplishments of their students. On April 4, we come together to show the students how proud we are of them and to say thank you for the continued support."

The evening will begin with registration at 6:30 p.m., with entertainment provided by Grupo Atzlan, a local favorite Fort Collins band. The banquet and ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. During dinner, entertainment will be provided by guests from Colorado State University. Student speakers will include graduating seniors Mindy Vigil, Xavier Flores and Nina Duran. All three students have worked at El Centro and have contributed to the mission and goals of the university.

For more than 20 years, El Centro has been assisting Colorado State University students in their pursuit of knowledge. El Centro promotes the history and culture of people of Mexican and Latino ancestry and provides services, information and programs to all students; however, the primary focus is on the Latino/a population.
