Colorado State University Hosts Speaker on the 2003 Israeli Election

A political advisor and political science professor from Tel Aviv University will visit Colorado State University Feb. 7 to lecture on the recent elections in Israel.

In his lecture, "Israel Elections 2003: Democracy in Action," Gideon Doron will discuss the implications of the Jan. 28 Israeli election as well as the election process itself from noon-1 p.m. Feb. 7 in Room 228 of the Lory Student Center. A question and answer period will follow the lecture. The program is free and open to the public.

Doron has served as a political advisor to everyone from mayors to ministers. He was Yitzhak Rabin’s campaign strategist during the 1992 election, a member of the National Security Team from 1992-93 and chairman of the board of the Second Authority for Television and Radio Council from 1995-99.

Doron is a graduate of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and the University of Rochester and teaches political science, public policy and political communication and strategy. His international teaching career includes such prestigious universities as Tel Aviv University, Hebrew University, New York University and SUNY-Binghamton. He was department chair of political science at both Tel Aviv University and Ben Gurion University in the Negev where he founded graduate programs in public policy. He was twice elected as the president of the Israeli Political Science Association and twice elected member of the executive board of the International Political Science Association.

Doron is the author of a dozen books and countless articles in Hebrew and English. Among his latest publications are: "Strategy of Elections" (1996); "The Electoral Revolution: Direct Election to the Prime Minster and Primaries" (1996); "Government and Politics of Israel" (1997, third edition); "Awaiting Representation: Politics of Women in Israel" (1998); "Political Bargaining: Theory, Practice and Process" (2000); "Public Policy and Electoral Reform: The Case of Israel" (2000); "Term Limits" (2001); and "The Politics of Bereavement" (2002).
