Colorado State University Takes Top Honors at the Colorado Japan Bowl

Colorado State University student teams swept to first and second place at the Colorado Japan Bowl held last week at the University of Denver. Colorado State now is the three-time defending champion of the annual competition.

Seven teams from Colorado State University, the University of Denver, the Air Force Academy and the University of Colorado at Boulder competed in the contest sponsored by the Japan-American Society of Colorado. Student teams fielded questions regarding Japanese history, culture, language and trivia.

A total of 10 points separated the two Colorado State teams at the end of competition, with the first place team scoring 170 and second place tallying160. The third place team finished with 75 points.

"The competition in the final round was really just between the two Colorado State teams," said Mako Beecken, team coach and lecturer in The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Colorado State. "Our teams worked hard and represented the university well. Colorado State is fortunate to have such dedicated and capable students compete in the Japan Bowl every year."
