National Consultations on Food Security Planned for May 21

Colorado State University will be one of 15 sites for the National Consultations on Food Security, a one-day conference from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. May 21 in Room 204 of the Weber Building. The general public and individuals from the private sector, non-governmental and international organizations, academia and other interested groups are encouraged to attend to provide their input.

The consultations are a follow-up to the World Food Summit in Rome last November and are designed to stimulate nationwide participation in the development of a U.S. Action Plan on Food Security.

Its important people participate in these meetings, said Martha Denney, Colorado State Director of the Office of International Education. They provide the American public with the opportunity to contribute their experience, insight and energy to a national effort to make sure people in need have enough to eat, both in the U.S. and around the world.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture will telecast a portion of the morning session from Washington, D.C. It will include presentations by USDA officials, members of Congress and speakers from the U.S. Government, private sector, non-governmental agencies and academia. The USDA will use the results of the consultations to draft an outline for the U.S. Action Plan.
